Green Building
China Airlines(CAL) headquarter – CAL Park building was completed in 2010. The overall layout is in line with the direction of the sun and adopts the orientation of “sit northeast to southwest.” The architectural design incorporates the concept of energy conservation and environment protection, such as using water-saving devices, energy-saving lighting and air conditioning, low-emissivity glass and sun shading boards, etc. CAL Park design also meets the four indicators of Taiwan Green Building Certification system (EEWH), such as “Greenery”, “Water content of the site”, “Daily Energy Conservation” and “Water Conservation.” During the operation phase of CAL Park, the Administration center building and Crew center building also obtained the “Diamond-grade Green Building” certificates from the Taiwan Ministry of the Interior in 2017 and 2018.
LOHAS Park
CAL Park covers an area of 4.7 hectares, with a green area of 1.3 hectares (27%). We plant more than 30 types of plants, with Taiwan native plants as the preferred planting choice, and widely set up tree information to convey ecological and eco awareness in CAL Park. We also establish the water recycling system which could harvest rainwater and some reclaimed water, and irrigate automatically in CAL Park. For indoors, there are many green plants recommended by the Taiwan EPA to purify indoor air in the office. We strive to create a healthy and comfort working environment for staff.
Renewable Energy
China Airlines strives to implement environmental protection and sustainability. We not only improve our aviation fuel efficiency, but also focus on optimization of ground energy efficiency. We actively introduce renewable energy, such as installing “Electric Power Regeneration Device” and “Solar Photovoltaic Device.” The overall spontaneous power generation is mainly for self-use, and has obtained the National Renewable Energy Certificate (T-REC), actively responding to Taiwan renewable energy development policy.
Air-Fuel Efficiency
China airlines(CAL) strives to improve aviation fuel efficiency. We have established a fuel-saving task force which based on the fuel-saving aspects, including “Reducing weight of aircraft”, “Enhancing operational improvements” and “Advancing maintenance & operation.” CAL also actively enhances fleet modernization and introduces eco-friendly fleets such as Airbus 350, Boeing 777, and Airbus 321neo which can further increase the fuel efficiency and reduce carbon emission by 20-25%.
Fly to ECO
Environmental Animation - Fly to ECO
China Airlines(CAL) worked with a Taiwan animation company to release an environmental animation, Fly to ECO, featuring its environmental practices in the recent years. With the promotion in social media and in-flight video, CAL hopes to enhance communicating with stakeholders regarding CAL's environmental performance and encouraging them to join CAL in various environmental initiatives. The animation won the Best Environmental Resources Award, the Outstanding Social Inclusion Award, the Outstanding Business Management Award, and the Outstanding Creativity Award in the 2019 Taipei Golden Eagle Micro-movie Festival.
ECO Footprint
CAL ECO Footprints are kinds of environmental stickers which are mainly designed with the animal footprints of endangered species in the world, such as endangered polar bears, critically endangered black rhinos, Sumatran elephants, Malay tigers, Asian tigers, and Bornean orangutans, in order to respond the global wildlife initiatives - Buckingham Palace Declaration and echo the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UN SDGs). The stickers are also labeled with QR Code for scanning and reading, which link to 21 actions of CAL environmental contributions, so that internal employees and external visitors could understand and enhance eco awareness.
